MEDITATION BOWLS
This series uses the bowl image as an icon
for
human spirituality and
meditation. I have found the bowl
to be
evocative of the human
spirit as a vessel, containing but
not limiting the
nature
of who and
what we are.
Sitting quietly and peacefully, content to just be in the present moment,
the bowl is a fitting
symbol of meditation.
Too often we rush through life,
not
taking the time to stop and
contemplate who and where we are
at this point
in our life, and to
appreciate the wonder and miracle
of just being alive.
The outward or surface appearance of the
bowls represents our constantly
changing nature. We are never the same
persons from moment to moment as
events and interactions cause discrete
and accumulative changes within us.
Some events cause prominent changes to
who we are, while others create
more subtle
effects and become buried within us.
Sometimes old influences
are later
revealed when new interactions in our
lives bring them to the surface.
